Hello tubes, bye bye bump.

Tomorrow is a big day for Miss Kadence. It's surgery day. A day we've been waiting on for a year. There are two things going on: 1) She's getting tubes. Not a huge deal. She's had 7 or 8 ear infections now (they consider 3 in a baby's first year excessive) so we'll get some tubes in there like her sister has and fix her right up!
2)She's having her bump removed. What bump?
That bump.
Slightly hidden in the folds of her neck.
Well what is it?? Good question. We don't know. She was born with it. To the touch it feels like a piece of cartilage underneath the skin. We had an MRI done which was inconclusive. Tomorrow when the surgeon cuts in and removes it, we will all get the answers we have wondered about for a year. Until then we will just keep calling it her "tickle button" (The Dr.'s call it the "1 inch mass protruding from the right side of her neck")

So yes, it is minor surgery, we'll be home by the afternoon. But as a parent I have learned that when a Dr. is discussing YOUR child's minor surgery and the breathing tube that is going to be stuck down her throat for an hour and a half, and the IV that is going to be in her little hand, it is best not to blink. It is best not to blink because if you blink then the buckets of water that are slowing filling your eyes may start to roll down your face. If they roll down your face then you may have to explain to your almost 3 year old why you are crying and you don't want to do that because you are strong. You are the parent. And this is minor surgery.

Maybe you pray. Maybe you think happy thoughts. Maybe you make wishes on stars. Whatever it is that you do, do you mind doing it tonight for my baby girl? Tomorrow is her big day and until it is over, I will be trying not to blink.
